Dr. Brenda Reddout

Dr. Brenda Reddout is in her third four-year term on the School Board. She is a native of upstate New York where she earned a B.A. Degree from the State University of Geneseo, and a Masters of Professional Services Degree (Health Services Administration) from the New School for Social Research (now New School University). In July 2005, she earned her doctorate in education from Capella University, where she focused on academic achievement of at-risk children. Dr. Reddout serves as a member of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and is President of READ Polk, the area coalition of literacy councils. She is a member of the Coalition of 100 Black Women and the Respect Life Committee at St. Matthew's Church in Winter Haven. She is also an active school volunteer and the parent of two children in the Polk County school system.

Dr. Reddout provides consulting and services to a number of community-based organizations.  Currently assisting a Lakeland faith based organization in board development, goal-setting, and implementation of services. Dr. Reddout has experience in board training, public relations, budgeting, and administration.  

She served as community facilitator for USF in the Florence Villa section of Winter Haven, under federal neighborhood revitalization/technical assistance grant awarded to USF.  Identified and coordinated technical assistance needs of neighborhood organizations, residents, city and county government, and others working to improve conditions within Florence Villa neighborhood.  Provided empowerment training to emerging groups and associations. Served as local spokesperson for this project.  Identified goals and objectives, as well as resources to achieve goals. Established community development
corporation.

            School Board Member

One of seven member board responsible for budgeting the district's $850 million budget.  and policy-making.  Served as board liaison to personnel, curriculum and instruction, transportation departments.  Served as chairman of the school board.  Serve as board representative to Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, School Readiness Coalition, Desegregation Oversight Committee.

Proposal to provide funding for a business incubator center at the Florence Villa Community Development Corporation (co-wrote).  Funded:  $100,000.

 

Publix Charities

Proposal to provide start up funds for Florence Villa Community Development Corporation.  Funded:  $13,000.

Proposal to provide funds for READ Polk public awareness campaign.

Funded:  $1,000.

 

Winter Haven Hospital

Proposal to provide Florence Villa Community Development Corporation start up funding.

Funded for three years:  $75,000, plus other assistance.

 

Polk County Board of County Commissioners

Proposal to start job development program at Florence Villa Community Development Corporation.

Funded:  $25,000

Proposal for housing assistance program for Florence Villa Community Development Corporation.

Funded:  $25,000

Proposal to provide architectural services and to renovate Florence Villa Community Development Corporation offices (co-wrote).

Coordinated the planning and implementation activities, on a consultative basis, of one of six state sponsored pilot programs to empower residents in two of the poorest neighborhoods in Syracuse, New York. Worked with neighborhood groups, local government (city and county), the Syracuse City School District, chamber of commerce, police department and health agencies to improve health conditions, optimize economic development opportunities, prepare residents to become employed, ensure adequate housing, and promote the general well being of all families in the area.
